Welcome to Brainfruit. We are a registered charity that works to encourage an appreciation of literature within the community, make poetry more accessible to the public at large and support new writers and performers.
In short, we believe that 'Poetry must be made by all. Not by one.' (Lautréamont).
We achieve this by:
Promoting literary and spoken word events at a variety of accessible community venues
Supporting and running events in schools, colleges and further education establishments
Producing cultural and community events to promote literature and poetry
Advocating, performing and promoting literature and poetry through social media via our website and the internet
Advocating, performing and promoting literature and poetry via traditional media outlets such as radio, television and the press
Partnering with community organisations such as arts centres, libraries and resource centres to promote poetry and literature
Forming links with organisations sympathetic to our aims
Running and devising new workshop programmes to encourage participation with literature and poetry
Providing a social network for new writers and performers of poetry and literature via our website and the internet
Promoting, advocating, representing and supporting writers and performers to perform or contribute their poetry and prose to radio, television and the press outlets
Linking writers and performers with organisations that might help them with raising their artistic standards further still
At present we are focusing on:
Spoken word performances and workshops in the Brighton area aimed, primarily, at the 18-24 year old age group – particularly those not working or in further education
Developing new, spoken word programmes for those over 65 who may be experiencing isolation or financial difficulties
Developing new spoken word programmes aimed at boys aged 11-14 who are presently not engaged with, or do not enjoy, reading
Regional and national touring within the UK of new poetry and spoken word of outstanding artistic merit
